Shearwater Launches
A new firm for a new era
Today, we are pleased to announce the creation of a new strategic consulting firm, Shearwater, with a team of consultants and advisers based in Brussels, London and Washington D.C.
We have come together to offer clients a new service. At a time when trade, competition and other regulatory policies are being weaponised, protectionism legitimised and borders rebuilt we believe our combined perspectives can help business rediscover its voice in British, European and global policy-making.
Shearwater is the brainchild of three experienced experts:
- Peter Guilford worked as a journalist for The Times and then as a trade negotiators and spokesperson for the European Commission before co-founding and then selling a successful Brussels-based public affairs agency.
- Tim Price was managing partner of a EU communications consultancy and has over 20 years of experience as a strategic communications and government relations consultant.
- Hans Kribbe is the author of “The Strongmen” about Europe’s relations with populist leaders; he worked inside the European Commission before becoming a political communications consultant.
Joining the three founders are:
- Cathy Novelli. She is a former Under-Secretary of State under President Obama. For 7 years she ran Apple’s global public affairs and before that she was Deputy US Trade Representative for Europe.
- Alexander Downer. He was Australia’s longest-serving Foreign Minister, and ended his political career as Australian High Commissioner to the UK before taking on a number of roles including Chairman of Policy Exchange.
- Karl Falkenberg. He is recognised as one of the EU’s best-ever trade negotiators and ended his career with the European Commission as its top environment and sustainability civil servant.
We understand like few others the intricacies of global trade policy and regulation, whether in energy, the environment, innovation and science, tech or healthcare. And we are well placed to help British-based businesses protect their markets in Europe after Brexit, and likewise global companies trading with the UK.
