Peter Guilford
Peter has worked at the epicentre of European politics and regulation for over thirty-five years. He is recognised as an expert on international trade policy and respected for his formidable communications skills.
Since 2000 he has helped global companies position themselves in European markets in sectors including trade, antitrust, energy, tech, financial services, heavy industry, retail and food. He co-founded the ground-breaking EU consulting firm GPLUS which merged with Portland in 2019. He has advised sovereign governments on how to strengthen their voice in the European Union and among its member governments.
Prior to this, Peter spent ten years in the European Commission as Spokesman for Competition Policy and Financial Services, then Trade Policy. He spent four years as an EU negotiator on China’s entry into the World Trade Organisation before becoming Deputy Spokesman of the Commission under ex-President Romano Prodi. In 1999 he spearheaded the EU’s media handling at the controversial world trade talks in Seattle.
Peter began his career as a journalist for The Times of London after graduating from Durham University. He speaks English, French and Spanish.
