Lowri’s 36 years in the European Commission placed her at the helm of EU decision-making in some of the most influential EU policy areas like competition, the single market, industry and employment.

She has extensive experience of regulating many industrial and service sectors, and an excellent understanding of the competitiveness challenge for Europe, and for the UK post Brexit. She has led legislative preparation and negotiations for the Commission, represented the EU vis-à-vis third countries, and managed EU funds.

She finished her career in the Commission as Director-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), dealing with the internal market, industry policy, defence and space. Before that she was Director-General for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs. This followed sixteen years as a official inside DG Competition, regulating anti-trust, mergers and state aid cases, rising to Deputy Director-General. She also spent seven years working on employment and social policy, including in the private office of the Commissioner.

Lowri qualified as a Chartered Accountant and began her career as an auditor for Deloitte. She is a trustee of the British School of Brussels. A British national, Lowri speaks fluent French as well as her native Welsh.
